Charles William Jacobs
Funeral services for Charles William Jacobs, 78, will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, September 6, 2006, at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Paul Gould officiating. Visitation is from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, September 5, 2006, at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are nephews Tim Press, Marc Rea, Larry Walthall, Pete Jacobs, Steve Kidwell, and Tidwell. Honorary pallbearers are John, McNatt, Jack McNatt, J. B. McNatt, Louis Clark, Weldon Mays, Harry Bray, Bill Morgan, and Charles Rea.
Burial is at Memoryland Memorial Park.
Charles died Saturday, September 2, 2006, at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville after a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland L. Jacobs, Sr., and Mary Elizabeth Knox Jacobs of Leonard; brother, Bob Knox Jacobs of Harold; brother-in-law, Bill Davidson of Sherman and sister-in-law, Carmen Jacobs of Sherman.
Born in Celeste on January 4, 1928, he was married to Jean Kidwell of Leonard on June 11, 1949, and they celebrated their fifty-seventh wedding anniversary this year.
Charles was a graduate of Celeste High School in 1944 and East Texas State College in Commerce. He served in the US Navy from 1945 to 1948. He was a member of the Crockett Elementary Dads Club, a coach of Little League baseball for seven years, and a charter member of Webb Hill Country Club. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and the Parkinson's Support Group of Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville.
Charles retired from E-Systems in 1984.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Jacobs, son Chuck Jacobs and his wife Sharon Jacobs; grandson Dusty Jacobs and fiancée Allison Rancich; son Keith Jacobs, all of Greenville; brothers, Jim Ed Jacobs of Sherman, Roland L. "Jake" Jacobs, Jr., and his wife Paula Jacobs of Greenville; sisters Bettie Eleanor Davidson of Granbury and Sara Renfro and husband Dean Renfro of Granbury; brother-in-law Grady Kidwell and wife Mohonna Kidwell of Trenton; eighteen nieces and nephews; thirty great-nieces and nephews; and ten great-great nieces and nephews.
