Christine Castner, 83, of Greenville died the morning of June 5, 2006, at Winter Park Nursing and Rehab Center in Garland. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Charles Ivy officiating. Burial follows at Memoryland Memorial Park.
Daughter of Crum and Jimmie Sparks Hendrix, she was born June 22, 1922, in Tupelo, Miss. On June 16, 1945, she was married to Lonnie D. Castner in Greenville. Mrs. Castner was a homemaker, and she was a member of Highland Terrace Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband of Greenville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Charlotte and Tim Powell of Garland and Eleanor and Roger Smith of Tupelo, Miss.; granddaughters Leah and husband Tony Gore of Greenville, Jana Powell of Garland and Atonya and husband Mike Smith of Tupelo, Miss.; great-grandchildren Kiersten Pate and Josh Smith, both of Tupelo, Miss., and Peyton Gore of Greenville; a brother, James Hugh Hendrix of Ponotoc, Miss.; and sister Charline Oglesby of Little Rock, Ark. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Bill Hendrix, and a sister, Linda Roye. Pallbearers are Eric Castner, Keith Castner, Randy Leggett, Willis Wade, David Sumrall and Joe Waldrop.
