Claude Elmer Goode
Claude Elmer Goode, 85, died on March 31, 2005, at his home in Greenville following an extended illness.
Claude was born on December 3, 1919, to Lonnie Spears Goode and Lura Belle Jones Goode who lived in Celeste. In 1939, he was married to Clarice Edna Sampson from Merit on Christmas Day. They recently celebrated sixty-five years of marriage with family in attendance.
Claude was graduated from North Texas State University with a lifetime teaching certificate in all subjects. Much later, he went to Texas A&M (East Texas State University at Commerce) and obtained his master's degree. He was a Phi Delta Kappa. After college, he trained with the FAA in air traffic control and used this training in the Navy during World War II. He ten started teaching at a two-year school, Maxey Hall, and also taught, coached, and was principal at Trenton and other schools in Texas.
Taking a break from being a winning coach and honored educator; he was heliports manager and supervisor of the control towers at Bell Helicopter in Hurst for seventeen years. After his retirement, he and Clarice returned to Greenville and extended family to teach in the schools.
Claude again enjoyed his hobby of being a ham radio operator, W5PXK, and also began writing a book about growing up in Hunt County. Titled Passing This Way But Once, the book was purchased for placement in the East Texas University Library and libraries across the county. Excerpts from the book were used in The Greenville Herald Banner and Claude was asked to speak about it at Lamar Elementary, the Ham Radio Club, and the Retired Federal Employee
Club, all of which greatly pleased him.
Claude served in many churches throughout Texas and was a teacher and a deacon since 1946. He as a Christian man and would love to reunite with his many friends and loved ones in eternity.
He was preceded in death by his parents and only sister, Alice Bell Mills.
Surviving are his wife, Clarice Goode of Greenville; his children and spouses, Bob Goode and Jean Goode, Pat Luckett, Roger Goode and Elaine Goode, and Chele Walker and Glynn Walker; ten grandchildren and their spouses, Jim and Julie Goode, Joel and Mary Goode, John and Jen Goode, Karyn and Craig Poslick, Todd Luckett, Jason and Donna Goode, Julie and Shane Steen, Jessica Walker, Caley Walker, and Caitlen Walker; and eighteen great-grandchildren , Jenny Goode,
Jonas Goode, Johanna Goode, and Johnny Goode, Mark Goode, Sarah Goode, Justin Goode, Jason Goode, Michele Poslick, Christi Poslick, Samantha Poslick, Lane Luckett, Tarrant Luckett, Jenae Goode, Juree Goode, Jase Goode, Sam Goode, and Shelbi Goode.
Funeral services are at 2:00 PM, April 2, 2005, at Highland Terrace Baptist Church with Dr. Marvin Mosley and the Rev. Riley Hamilton officiating and under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. Burial follows at Memoryland Memorial Park.
Pallbearers are Todd Luckett, Mark Sampson, Jim Goode, Rick Sampson, Joel Goode, and Craig Poslick.
