Clyde Monroe Caraway, May 23, 1908, to Feb. 19, 2007, formerly of Dallas, Sulphur Springs and later Tyler, moved to Irving in 2002 to be closer to his family after his wife of 72 years, Thelma died. His family welcomed him and enjoyed every minute spent with him.
Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Monroe and Iva Britt Caraway; a brother, Glenn Franklin Caraway; and his wife.
His is survived by a daughter Marian Elizabeth Caraway Gibson and her husband Harry Gibson of Dallas; a grandson, Darrell James Probst and wife Tamara Marie McPherson Probst of Irving, granddaughters Elizabeth Anne Probst Stetenfeld and husband Eric William Stetenfeld of Irving and Marcia Elaine Gibson of Dallas; great-grandchildren Mimi Marie Probst of Frisco and Mackenzie McPherson Probst of Irving; and many other relatives and friends who were so important to him.
Clyde graduated from Greenville High School and Burleson College in Greenville and attended SMU in Dallas. He worked at North American Aviation during World War II and then in the optical field for many years until retirement.
He enjoyed retirement and spent a lot of time in his garden and in his yard. He loved to cook out on his grill and having friends and family over to sample a taste right off the grill! Always active in church, he sang in the choir and taught Sunday school for many years in Grace Temple Baptist Church in Dallas, South Baptist Church in Greenville, Hillcrest Baptist Church, First Baptist Church in Sulphur Springs, and Calvary Baptist Church in Tyler.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was known for always being a cut up and telling funny stories. He never met a stranger and loved to sing and play the piano for his many friends. He was a great sports fan as well.
His daily walks were always an important part of his life and continued until he entered the hospital on Jan. 19, 2007. He loved walking and telling everyone how many steps he had taken. He always had a smile on his face and brought so much joy to all who knew him. His infectious laugh and constant smile will be truly missed. He will be in our hearts forever.

Services are scheduled at 1 p.m. Thursday at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home chapel 5100 Interstate 30, in Greenville with Rev. Johnny Beard officiating. Burial will be in East Mount Cemetery in Greenville.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Darrell James Probst, Eric William Stetenfeld, David Haney, Robert Haney, Gene Corey and Johnny Little.
