William Leon Cryer
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, May 9, 1950, for William Leon Cryer, 24, of Grand Prairie, who was accidentally drowned on Sunday afternoon, May 7, 1950, at City Lake in Ennis.
Cryer was fishing with his brother-in-law, Victor Sonka, when the accident occurred.
Burial will be in a Grand Prairie cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Coburn Moser, Neil Williams, Preston Hopewell, Millard Titus, Joe Shields, and Bert Reisor.
Mr. Cryer was born in the White Rock community on September 23, 1925, the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Cryer and was a 1944 CHS graduate.
He resided in Greenville and Dallas prior to enlisting in the US Army in January of 1949. He returned to Dallas last January after receiving his discharge and had resided in Grand Prairie recently as an employee of the Dallas Power and Light Company. He was a member of the White Rock Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, the former Bessie Sonka; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Cryer of Celeste; five brothers, J. C. Cryer of Odessa, James A. Cryer of Grand Prairie, Billy Ray Cryer of Celeste, and P. R. Cryer and A. L. Cryer of Dallas; and three sisters, Mrs. J. W. McWilliams and Mrs. Lee Bostick of Greenville and Mrs. Aaron Doyle of Roxton.
