Curley Evans was born April 6, 1929, in Navarro County, son of Florence and Willie Evans. He was reared by his grandmother, Betheany Harthorn. Educated in Navarro County, he left home in 1945 and worked all over the country. On Feb. 1, 1952, he married Erma Herron of Wolfe City, and 10 children were born to the union. Curley worked at Certain-Teed Roofing Company for a number of years. He also preached on the street corners of downtown Dallas. He leaves to cherish his memory 10 children, stepson Chester (Shelby) Herron of Denton, Shirley (Roy) Rivers-Youngblood of Reagan, Claude (Connie) Evans of Houston; Leamond Paul Evans of Lewisville, Edythe Evans, Brenda (Patrick) Montgomery, Tracy Aaron Evans, Timothy Carl Evans and Danny Evans, all of Dallas, and Marri (Jeff) Lewis of Wolfe City; sisters Ula Vee, Hazel Lenny and Margaret; brothers Jake, Robert, Billy Ray and Bernell; 30 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be at noon Saturday at 2025 West Wheatland Road in Dallas with Rev. André Byrd officiating. Burial will be at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Wolfe City. Visitation is from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Grace & Mercy Funeral Home in Greenville.
