Freda Faye (Lewis) Shafer

Freda Faye (Lewis) Shafer, 95, of Greenville went to be with her Lord on June 24, 2006, following a long stay in Greencrest Manor Nursing Home. A celebration of her life will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Peters Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Martha Murchison officiating. Her final resting place will be next to her husband and first daughter at Memoryland Memorial Park. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Freda was born in Pretty Prairie, Kan., on Feb. 3, 1911. Her family moved to Leoti, Kan., in the ‘30s. She graduated from Sterling College and taught school for two years before marrying Joseph Putman (Put) Shafer, then moving to Englewood, Colo. Freda was a member of the local Newcomers Club, the Garden Club, and Altrusa. She was a member of Aldersgate Church and attended Grace Presbyterian with her daughter and son-in-law. Freda enjoyed traveling with her husband and took great pride in promoting the education of her daughter and grandsons. Her husband of 52 years; first daughter, Shirley Rae; parents, Alonzo E. and Ora Dell Miller Lewis; brothers, Eugene and Neil Lewis, and two sisters, Vera Lipus and Rena Wewer preceded her in death. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Thomas Petersen of Greenville; grandsons Johnny Wasson and wife, Lesa of Greenville and Jeffrey Wasson of West Tawakoni; a sister, Jeanette Smith of Leoti, Kan.; and sister-in-law Susie White of Leoti, Kan.
