Fred Garcia, 79, of Greenville died the afternoon of Nov. 6, 2006, at Briarcliff Health Center. Funeral services are at 2:30 p.m. today at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Fred Howard and Rev. Brent Grissom officiating. Burial follows at Forest Park Cemetery. The son of Fred and Maria Ochoa Garcia, he was born Sept. 14, 1927, in Waco. On April 9, 1995, he and his wife Mary were married in Greenville.
Mr. Garcia served in the Merchant Marines. He retired from Amoco Chemicals-Chocolate Bayou Plant. He attended First Assembly of God and the Citizens Police Academy of Greenville.
Surviving are his wife of Greenville; two sons, Fred Garcia III of Galveston and Edward Garcia of Texas City; two stepdaughters, Shelly Moore of Greenville and JoAnne Dent of Lone Oak; a sister, Mary Ann Rodriquis of LaMarque; brother Richard Garcia of LaMarque; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father in 1982; his mother in 1981; a granddaughter, Leah Dent, in 2000; and a brother, Tommy Garcia, in 1995. Pallbearers are Jay Housewright, Mike Johnson, Jamey Dent, Billy Dent, Ivan Gustin and Christina Sifuentes. Visitation is from 1:30 p.m. until service time today at the funeral home.
