Services for D.B. Gear Held Sunday
D.B. Gear, aged 41, prominent young Greenville business man, died at his home, 4103 Lee street at 12:15 o’clock Sunday afternoon, after an illness of several months duration. Mr. Gear contracted pneumonia sometime ago, but after a lengthy illness was apparently on the road to recovery when he suffered a relapse.
Funeral services were held at the Washington Street Baptist Church at 3:30 o’clock this afternoon conducted by Rev. J. Frank Weedon, former pastor and assisted by Rev. John Wright and Rev. J.A. Caylor. Internment followed in Forest Park Cemetery.
Active pall bearers were John Thomas, Ed Elmore, D.N. Rogers, T.L. Slider, C.A. Kuykendall and J.R. Fowlkes.
Honorary pall bearers were all friends and acquaintances.
Mr. Gear was born in Woodland, Red River County, August 7, 1887, and was married to Miss Versie McLarry December 5, 1914. They have resided in this city for a number of years, during which time Mr. Gear was engaged in the mercantile business. He held a large acquaintance and was held in high esteem by a large circle of friends and acquaintances. Mr. Gear had been a member of the Baptist church for a number of years and was active in church and social work.
He is survived by his widow, one daughter, Peggy Dean, two brothers, Dick Gear of Slaton, Joe Gear of Oklahoma, and two sisters, Mrs. Caton of Sapulpa, Okla., Mrs. Moore of Chicago, and a nephew, Roy Moore of this city.
