TYLER — George Wesley Shepherd, Sr., 69, of Tyler died December 29, 2006.

Services for Mr. Shepherd, who was a faithful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Jan. 1, 2007, in the chapel of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home in Tyler with Dr. Darryle Dunks and the Rev. Andy Narramore officiating. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. in the Memoryland Memorial Park cemetery in Greenville with the Rev. Roger Ratliff officiating.

Family will receive friends today from 4 to 6 p.m. at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home.

Mr. Shepherd was born March 4, 1937 in Hunt County to the late Charlie and Katie Bowman Shepherd. Mr. Shepherd was a graduate of Greenville High School in 1957. He and his wife Betty moved to Tyler in 1984. His forty year career was in sales both wholesale and retail. He retired from Sears in 1995 and most recently worked as a driver for the NAPA Auto Parts Store where he was affectionately known as “Shep.” Mr. Shepherd attended Green Acres Baptist Church; he loved ministering to people, was a deacon, and also belonged to the Masonic Lodge.

He is also preceded in death by a son, David K. Shepherd, and a sister, Maxine McCorkle. He is survived by his loving wife Betty Love Shepherd of Tyler. The two would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Jan. 2. He is also survived by a son, Wes Shepherd and wife Robin of Rowlett; daughter, Shelly Longacre and husband Rich of Tyler; daughter-in-law, Tracey Crouch of Greenville, brother, Charlie Shepherd of Wills Point; sisters, Mattie Phillips of Greenville, Mary Jo Weatherly of Greenville and Jeanell Green of Mesquite; grandchildren, Jason and Lauren Edwards, Daniel and Katie Shepherd, Lucie and Wesley Shepherd; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be his nephews.
