The family of Glenda Kay Sly, 52, of Greenville mourns the death of a special angel, loving daughter, sister, mother and grandmother who died Feb. 21, 2007, at her brother Phillips’ residence.
She was born Feb. 16, 1955, in Greenville, daughter of Homer Ray and Grace Land. She was married to Mark Sly in Reno, Nev., on Oct. 31, 1980. She and Mark lived in several states during their marriage; and upon his death on April 4, 1989, she moved back to Greenville.
Glenda grew up in the East Tawakoni area and attended school in Lone Oak where she graduated. Upon graduation she attended Tyler Junior College and East Texas State University. Glenda was a member of the Bois d’Arc Baptist Church.
She was a special mother to daughter Stefanie Lee Sly of Greenville and son Raymond Scott Sly of East Tawakoni. She is also survived by her mother of East Tawakoni; brothers Steve Land and wife Carolyn of Quinlan, Phillip Land and wife Montra of Carrollton and Scott Land of East Tawakoni; a sister, Sandra Land of Lone Oak; and five grandsons, Paden Bruton, Rylee Cotten, Adren Riggs, Braden Porter and Lexton Sly. She was a much loved aunt to Mona Gilley and husband Charles of Quinlan, Stacie West and husband Brent of Grapevine, Heather Land of Carrollton, Quinton Land of Lone Oak, Shaye Land of Canada, Garrett and Gunner Land of Dodd City and Shane Smith of Quinlan and great-aunt to Jenna Gilley and Braylie West. She also leaves uncles Robert Land and wife Mary, Roy Land and wife Brenda, Ray Weatherford and Roy Weatherford and wife Cathy; an aunt, Bobbie Mercer; and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her father; an aunt, Doris Combest; uncles Truman Land and Coy Land; a cousin, Bob Land; and grandparents.
She was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign War located in Greenville where she had many very special friends.
Anyone who ever crossed Glenda’s path could easily say that she was a very happy person and valued life to its fullest. She always had a smile and a joke for whoever had the time to listen. Glenda, our love, you will be missed dearly.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Land, Billy Mercer Jr., Daymond Weatherford, Jerry McGee, David Lemons and Billy Stewart.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lynch Funeral Service in Greenville. Burial will follow in Wieland Cemetery.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
The family will be at the home of Phillip and Montra Land on County Road 1605 in East Tawakoni.
