Robert D. Handley
Funeral services were held at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, January 19, 1954, for Robert D. Handley who passed away Monday, January 18, 1954, following a lengthy illness.
Services were held at the First Baptist Church in Leonard with the Rev. Robert Ridley of Dallas officiating. Burial was in the Leonard Cemetery under the direction of the Wilson Funeral Home. Masonic rites were directed by the Wylie-Manning Masonic Lodge of Pike.
Deceased was born on May 10, 1898, in the Lane community, the son of the late John Handley and Emma Handley. He was a member of the Lane Methodist Church and of the Wylie-Manning Masonic Lodge of Pike. He was married to Miss Essie Saye on September 2, 1920.
Pallbearers were Ralph Braddy, Earnest Berry, Clifton Childress, Tink Fry, Paul (Pete ?) McGee, and J. H. McGee.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Robert Handley; three daughters, Mrs. C. E. Crews, Mrs. V. S. Lewis, and Mrs. Charles Wells; three sisters, Mrs. E. R. Verble, Mrs. Bell Callwell (sic), and Mrs. Jessie Husbands; and one brother, Dr. Jim Handley.
