Herbert C. Lewis, 76, of Greenville, passed away on Saturday at a Dallas hospital. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Peniel Church of the Nazarene with Bros. Marvin McDaniel, Cliff Reneau and Ron Hight officiating. Burial will follow at Memoryland Memorial Park. Visitation is tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at Peters Funeral Home, which is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Lewis was born on April 9, 1930; the son of O.C. and Cordelia Vineyard Lewis in Ponchatoula, La. On March 2, 1951, he married Barbara Tomlinson in East Moline, Ill. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and worked with the railroad for more than 40 years with Chicago Rock Island Pacific and New Orleans Public Belt Railroads. He was a member of the Peniel Church of the Nazarene. He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Greenville; daughters, Debbie Lewis and fiancé, Steve Garcia of Kansas City, Mo., Laurie Rushing and husband, Nathan of Gardner, Kans., and Ruth Stoudenmier of Kentwood, La.; son, Mike Lewis and wife, Jan of Greenville; grandchildren, Anne Lewis of Kansas City, Mo., Stacy Bookout and husband, Dallas, Sarah Lewis and fiancé, Weldon Hood, all of Greenville; Isaac, Breanne, and Lindsey Rushing, all of Gardner, Kans.; Stephanie McDuff of Thomasville, Ala., Adam Crawford of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Amanda Stoudenmier of Kentwood, La.; great-grandchildren, Maci and Dylan Bookout and Trey Golden; brother, Gerald Lewis of Amite, La.; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Truett Lewis. Ray Robnett, Jim Price, Billy Rosenbalm, Mike Rawlings, Jack Young, and Josh Rosenbalm are pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Doyle Currin and Glen Westbrook. Memorials may be made to the Peniel Church of the Nazarene building fund, 1009 Rees, Greenville, 75401.
