COMMERCE — James Eugene Isaacs, loving husband and devoted father passed from this world into the arms of God on Aug. 3, 2006. His bliss for life was an inspiration for the family members who nursed him during his courageous and tenacious battle with lung cancer. Jim was born Jan. 4, 1941, to Walter and Minnie Isaacs. His youthful days were spent fishing and hunting with his older brothers in and around Fairlie and Wolfe City. Jim attended Wolfe City High School and graduated from East Texas State Teacher’s College in 1963 and was a veteran of the United States Army. Jim met his beloved wife Joyce in April 1966 in Greenville. It was love at first sight. Six months later on Sept. 23 they were married in Durant, Okla. Their home was blessed with three daughters. If you look up the word “devotion” in Webster’s Dictionary, a picture of Jim and Joyce would be displayed to represent the meaning. While reminiscing of his blessed life, Jim shared the story of paying the band so he could continue dancing with the love of his life, and of hand-picking fresh roses to give to Joyce for a birthday bouquet. The name Jim Isaacs evokes so many things in the lives of the people he touched. Dedicated Christian, beloved husband, endeared father, devoted friend, an avid fisherman before being bitten by the golfing bug and he was an even-handed proletarian who retired from Raytheon (E-Systems) after 35 years of dedicated service. Jim never met a stranger. He loved retirement, grew the best tomatoes, grilled the juiciest rib-eye steak, and worked feverishly to have a lush and immaculate yard, and it showed. His favorite going-out-to-eat meal was fish. He doted on his grandbabies. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Minnie Isaacs, and brothers Davis, Dean and Ray Isaacs. He is survived by his wife, Joyce; three daughters, Jamie Fulenwider of Austin, Cheryl Jimenez of Paris and Rhonda Cooper of Greenville; two sisters, Shirley Tenison of Bonham and Ginger Epperson of Rowlett; and nine grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church in Commerce. Interment will be at Rosemound Cemetery. Visitation is from 6 to 7 p.m. today at Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home in Commerce.
