James “Jack” Chessher, 67, of Commerce died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the Ridgecrest Baptist Church with the Rev. Harvey Snider, the Rev. Charles Strickland and the Rev. Jimmie Rose officiating. Burial will follow in the Sonora Cemetery under the direction of the Delta Funeral Home of Cooper.
Mr. Chesser was born Dec. 13, 1939, in Charleston, Texas, the son of Owen and Bonnie (Nabors) Chessher. He married Nora Kelsay on April 14, 1961. Jack was a member of the Ridgecrest Baptist Chruch of Commerce since 1969, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He retired as a truck driver from Nations Way in September 1995 and was a member of the Teamsters Union.
He was preceded in dath by his parents and two brothers, Norris Chessher and Bud Chessher. Mr. Chessher enjoyed the outdoors, farming and raising cattle. He was very proud of his grandchildren and supported their athletic and academic endeavors.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Nora Chessher of Commerce; four children, Donna and Denny Yoakum of Commerce, Kevin and Cindy Chessher of Fort Worth, Stephanie and Jeff Moreland of Commerce, and Jason Chessher of Commerce; eight grandchildren, Catherine and Caitlin Yoakum, Ryan, Ethan and Caley Chessher; and Tiffany, Payton and Chaney Moreland; three sisters, Jean Pierce, Linda Jonas and Alma Click; and two brothers, Ben Chessher and Cole Chessher.
Pallbears will be Kevin Chessher, Jason Chessher, Denny Yoakum, Jeff Moreland, Ben Chessher, Cole Chessher, Al Peirce and Norris Click. Honorary pallbearers are the current and former deacons of his church and longtime friends Jim Smith and Wilburn Stubblefield.
Visitation will take place today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ridgecrest Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Ridgecrest Baptist Church Building Fund, 918 Bishop St., Commerce, Texas 75428, or the American Cancer Society.
