James Louis (J.L.) Bevill

James Louis (J.L.) Bevill went home to be with his Lord on March 31, 2007.

J.L. was born June 18, 1922 in Yantis, Texas to Mack and Rosa Bevill. He moved to west Texas in 1950 and farmed the Claytonville community until his retirement in 1983. After retiring, he returned to east Texas and lived in Greenville and worked at Rubbermaid for 14 years.

His labor of love on this earth was his work at church. He served as a deacon at the Kress Church of Christ and as an elder at the Johnson Street Church of Christ.

J.L. is survived by his wife Claudine, whom he married March 4, 1944, and they just recently celebrated 63 years of marriage. He is also survived by a daughter, Sherry Moss of Greenville; sons and daughters-in-law, Louis and Elaine Bevill of Tulia and Jerry and Donna Bevill of Plainview. He also had 10 grandchildren, SarahLopez of Kerrville, Andrew Bevill of Lubbock, Con, Caleb, Gideon, Hannah, Elijah, Noah, Micah and Enoch Moss, all of Greenville; two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Abbie Lopez; brothers, Mack, Q.D. and Carl Bevill; and sisters, Helen Ayers, Pearlie Garrett, Sally Hendricks, Edith Breland and Jo Seymour. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Joyce and brothers, Clovis and Wayne Bevill and a sister Martha Nell.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Johnson Street Church of Christ under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. Randy Daw will officiate. Burial will be in the Greenview Cemetery.

Mr. Bevill’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
