James T. West (Jim) passed away Feb. 9, 2007, at Hospice of East Texas in Tyler. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12, 2007 at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel, 5100 Interstate 30, with Carol West officiating. Burial will be in Celeste, Hogeye Cemetery.

Mr. West was born to Ted West and Mable Erle Greenwood West in Celeste. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving on the U.S.S. Leary and the U.S.S. Witek. After being discharged, he enrolled at East Texas State in Commerce, where he obtained a B.B.A. and M.B.A.

On Sept. 11, 1948, he married Mary Ann Boyd in Greenville. They have three children. He was a Methodist.

He was employed for 17 years at Frontier Manufacturing in Dallas and for 25 years for General Portland/La Farge Corporation in Dallas and Houston. An amateur radio operator (K5JUR) and avid kite builder and flyer, he and Mary Ann enjoyed traveling to kite festivals and conventions.

After his retirement, they moved to Hideaway.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; one daughter, Carol, of Arlington; two sons, Greg and wife Kay of Hideaway, and John and wife Kari of Great Falls, Va.; five grandchildren, Ema-Leigh Downey and husband John of Athens; Jonathan F.M. West of Austin; Tommy, Ellie and Jake West of Great Falls, Va.; and two great-grandchildren, Hartley and Scout Downey of Athens; a niece, Evangelyn Jordan of Celeste; two sisters, Barbara Pollock of Las Cruces, N.M., and Jacque Nelson of Capistrand Beach, Calif.; and many other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Mabel West, and sisters, Edith Conley and Evelyn Jordan.

Pallbearers will be Bill Taylor, Jim Boyd, Lynn Jacobs, Jonathan F.M. West, Ron Saye and John Downey. Honorary pallbearers will be Ted West, Charles West, Cliff Reneau, Sam West, John V. West, Kenneth Caplinger, Robert W. Saye, Gerald B. Saye, Laura Mayes and David Haley.

Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.
