With a song in her heart, Jean Dunagan Koger, longtime Greenville resident, died at her home on Friday, Sept. 29, 2006. Jean, born on Feb. 1, 1926, grew up in Paris, Texas, the daughter of A. O. and Pauline Dunagan. She attended Paris Junior College, where she met the love of her life, A. D. (Bud) Koger. They were married on April 19, 1945. After living in Nebraska and Sulphur Springs, Texas, they made their home in Greenville. They had two children; Alfred Dennis Koger Jr. and Karol Koger Daniel. Blessed with a beautiful voice and a love of music, Jean began performing at the age of three. She sang her first church solo at age 12. She loved being in her church choir, and also enjoyed singing for weddings, funerals and other events. Jean was a charter member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church, where she faithfully taught Sunday School for more than 36 years. Jean was involved with many activities throughout her life, including PTA, WMU, The Standard Club and the Junior Marys Bible Club. Jean was an avid collector of blue glass, a voracious reader, a wonderful cook and a devoted friend to many. Above all, she was a loving wife, mother and Beboba. Her infectious laugh and joyful song blessed all she met. Left to treasure her memory are her son and his wife, the Reverend Doctor Dennis and Jan Koger of Kyle; daughter and her husband, Karol and Wallace Daniel of Waco; grandchildren Dr. Matt and Kris Koger of Greenville, Mandy Koger of Kyle, Melody Koger of Austin, Michael Koger of Kyle, Zach and Christina Daniel of Waco; and Elizabeth Daniel of Chicago, Ill.; great-grandchildren Justin, Travis, Allyson and Landon Koger of Greenville; and her brother and his wife, the Reverend Blake and Virginia Dunagan of Tyler. The family would like to thank her caregivers Carolyn Kirk, Maylene Eldridge and Erin Brooks for their faithful care for the last several years.

Preceding her in death were her mother and father, her brother George Dunagan, her sister Alyce Ruth Haynes and her husband, Bud Koger. The memorial service will be at Ridgecrest Baptist Church at 4 p.m. Monday. Family visitation is from 4 until 6 p.m. today at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home, with Rev. Eddie Smith and Rev. Kevin Herbert officiating.
