John Rushing Wharton

Greenville Morning Herald -- Tuesday, February 29, 1944 -- J. R. Wharton, prominent resident of the Sullivan community, died at 10:15 o'clock Sunday night at the home of his son, John Wharton, 3004 Wesley Street.

Funeral arrangements are pending the arrival of relatives.

John Rushing Wharton, was born in Woodbury, Tenn. He came to Texas when a young man and in 1913 moved to Hunt County from West Texas, locating in the Sullivan community. He had been a successful farmer throughout his residence here and was one of the most prominent citizens of that section of the county.

He had been a member of the Baptist Church for many years and was also a member of Fred Ende Lodge IOOF.

He is survived by his widow, one son, John Wharton, Greenville; and three daughters, Mrs. D. W. Hooker, New Gulf, Texas; Mrs. Maul Klund, Kensington, Md.; and Mrs. Ann Kelber, New York City; one brother, Sam Wharton, Greenville, and two sisters, Mrs. Ann Macon, and Mrs. Lyda Gray, Woodbury, Tenn.
