Greenville Herald Banner -- December 15, 1998 -- J. R. "Shorty" Greer of Greenville died Saturday evening at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Peters Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Dougherty officiating. Burial will be in Sullivan Cemetery.
Mr. Greer was born in Hunt County on July 31, 1919, to Lee and Amanda Dawson Greer. He married Bessie Elizabeth Arnold on Nov. 4, 1966, in Greenville. He was the owner of Shorty's Tire Shop and also raised cattle. He was a member of Grace Temple Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Bobbie Greer of Mesquite; daughters Georgia Shipp of Campbell, Linda Weeks of Mesquite and Nelda Hodgson and Myrtie Dunn of Greenville; a sister, Pauline Lunsford of Sulphur Springs; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Michael Greer and Edward Hodgson, and two sisters, Olla Mae Horton and Ollie Lee Jones.
Grandsons will be pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Peters Funeral Home.
