A funeral service for Lennis Johnson, 90, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Family Fellowship Church under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Paul Blue will officiate. Burial will be in Memoryland Memorial Park. He was born January 5, 1916, to Henry Thurman and Pearl Smart Johnson in Point. He graduated from Emory High School and East Texas State Teacher’s College in Commerce. He married his high school sweetheart, Lura Gentry, on June 4, 1938, in Lone Oak. Mr. Johnson was a faithful member of Family Fellowship and also a member of The Fellowship Bible Class. He was a life member of the Knights of Pythias organization. Lennis served in the Air Force during World War II. He was a landowner and raised cattle as long as he was able. After the war was over, he worked for the Texas Employment Commission for 38 years. He enjoyed meeting friends at The Royal Drive-In for coffee and visiting. Those cherishing his memories are his beloved wife, Lura of Greenville , sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Linda Johnson of Greenville, Jerry and Cathy Johnson of Winnsboro, daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Monty McCarley of Blue Ridge, seven grandchildren Brian and wife Deborah Johnson of Tyler, Wendell McCarley and wife Tammy of Blue Ridge, Michael and wife Amy McCarley of Blue Ridge, Derek Johnson and wife Marci of Lone Oak, Angie Rucker and husband Hank of McKinney, Jennifer Lovett and husband Bryan of Greenville, and Marcus Johnson and wife Stephanie of Austin, sixteen great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly, brother Clifton Johnson and wife Charlcie of Point, brother, Truett Johnson of Farmersville and a sister and brother-in-law, Glenna and Maurice Bigham of Waxahachie, two nieces and husbands, Judy and Ellis Avery of Fayetville, Ark., and Jo Ellen and Frank Longfellow of Point and nephew Jim Johnson and wife Stella of Irving and several great-nieces and nephews and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his father on February 1, 1961 and his mother in 1966. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Visitation will be Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
