COMMERCE - Lillian F. Barnes, 94, of Commerce died Monday in Greenville. Funeral services will be Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at Pemberton Funeral Chapel. Rev. Mike Wilson and Rev. Guille Seigler will officiate, Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Wolfe City.
Mrs. Barnes was born in Hopkins County on July 25, 1902, to Gustavus Henry Scarborough and Vonie Lee Gibson. She married James Clyde Barnes in Wolfe City on Oct. 18, 1922. She was a lifetime resident of Hunt County. She lived in the Scatter Branch Community and was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church and the Eastern Star. She assisted her husband in Barnes Grocery Store in Fairlie and Commerce and was in food service near the ETSU campus.
Survivors include two sons, Archie Lee Barnes of Ladonia and Ardis Dale Barnes of Winter Haven, Fla.; a daughter, Dora Sylvira Hancock of Sun City, Fla., a sister, Velma Fleming of Commerce; 6 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-randchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in Feb., 1983, three brothers; a sister, a granddaughter and a greatgrandson.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons.
Visitation will be this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Pemberton Funeral Home.
