Lula Mead Moore Mathews

Friends of the family at Celeste and in Greenville were shocked yesterday morning, January 29, 1919, to learn of the sudden death of Mrs. B. M. Mathews at her home in Celeste.

She had not been reported as ill, and had taught school in the city schools in Celeste during the day as usual, retired, and at 2:00 o'clock yesterday morning was found to have passed away.

The funeral services will be held at her home in Celeste at 3:30 PM, January 30, 1919, conducted by the Rev. C. A. Sweeton, pastor of the Methodist Church at Celeste, and the body will be brought here on the 3:45 PM Katy and will be taken from the station to East Mount Cemetery for interment.

Mrs. Mathews was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O. S. Moore of this city, and was born in Fannin County in 1878 near Bonham, but came to Hunt County when a mere child. She was married on June 3, 1896, to Mr. B. M. Mathews, editor of the paper at Celeste, and who was for many years a teacher, and had been teaching in the Celeste schools for many years.

Mrs. Mathews was a splendid Christian woman, having identified herself with the Christian Church twenty years ago, and ever lived the life that is always filled with promoting the Master's cause.

She was a member of the Eastern Star and a member of the Thursday Club.

Her death will cause mourning in the many homes in Hunt Count as she was so generally known and esteemed.

She is survived by her husband; one daughter, Miss Adelyne Mathews; two sisters, Mrs. Ed Morgan of this city and Mrs. S. L. Gough of Abilene; three brothers, Monte Moore, Bennett Moore, and O. S. Moore, Jr.; and her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. O. S. Moore, Sr., all of this city.

The family have the general sympathy of all their many friends in the loss of this fine woman.

The pallbearers here will be Robert Grove, J. A. McMurray, E. H. Casbell, J. Dile Langford, Ota Ward, and Ben Clemmons.

Burial of Mrs. Mathews Thursday Evening

The body of Mrs. B. M. Mathews arrived here from Celeste on the 3:45 Katy train on Thursday afternoon and was met at the station by a large number of friends of the family. The procession went from the station to East Mount Cemetery, where short exercises were conducted by the Rev. Graham McMurray, the funeral exercises having been held at the family home in Celeste.

There were many beautiful floral pieces and flowers which showed the love felt for the departed lady both a Celeste and here.
