Luther “L.J.” Smith, 86, of Greenville died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007, at his residence. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home chapel with Richard Fox officiating. Burial is in Wieland Cemetery.
Mr. Smith was born Nov. 10, 1920, in Cash; the son of Luther Smith and Allon Wilson Hunt Smith. He married Dorothy Dailey on Feb. 14, 1941, in Greenville.
Mr. Smith was a retired supervisor for retail sales and Vandervorts Milk and Manley Butane Company. He was also a rancher and a member of Primitive Baptist and Woodmen of the World.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Dailey Smith of Greenville; son and wife, Lynn Jay and Judy Smith of Greenville; daughter, Sandy Smith George of Greenville; grandsons and wives, Keith and Donna Reeves, Jeremy and Lori Smith, Steven and Shelley George, and Christopher Smith; granddaughters, Kimberley Reeves and Chelsea Smith; and great-grandchildren, Taylor, Erin, Chloe, Charlize, Kylie, Cody, Travis, Cheyenne and Maile.
He was preceded in death by his father, Luther Smith; mother, Allon Wilson Smith Hunt; and son-in-law, William “Bill” George.
Pallbearers are grandsons, Don Coppinger, Presley Sellers and Shane Crites. Honorary pallbearers are Davie Reeves, Donnie Landrum, Clyde Terry, George “Sonny” Mitchell and Jackie Smith.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
