Mary Ann Newby Winsett
Final rites were observed at 3:00, Sunday, August 2, 1942, at the Church of Christ at Floyd for Mrs. J. W. Winsett, 79, longtime resident of Hunt County, who died Saturday, August 1, 1942, at 10:30 PM, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. T. Puryear, at Floyd.
Services were conducted by V. E. Howard, minister of the Johnson Street Church of Christ here, and burial was in the Merit Cemetery.
Mrs. Winsett, who was Mary Ann Newby before her marriage, was born on April 30, 1863, in Limestone County, Alabama, near Athens. On August 1, 1886, she was married to the late J. W. Winsett and in 1893 they moved to Texas. She had since been a resident of this state.
When she was a young girl Mrs. Winsett embraced the teachings of Christianity and was united with the Church of Christ. Throughout the years, she had been a faithful Christian and an active church worker.
Mrs. Winsett is survived by six children, Mrs. Puryear; T. W. Winsett of Caddo Mills; Redus Winsett of Farmersville; Mrs. R. L. Lincycomb of Kingston; H. N. Winsett of Floyd, and B. F. Winsett of Wagner; twenty-one grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Her husband died on February 26, 1940, and one son, Carlyle Winsett, died in 1918.
