Mary Louise Lara, 60, on the wings of angels, she went to be with her Father on June 5, 2006, at the Dallas Baylor Hospital following a courageous battle with a lung illness. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. today at St. William’s Catholic Church. Father Paul Weinberger will officiate. Burial follows in Caddo Mills I.O.O.F. Cemetery under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. She was born Nov. 3, 1945, in Greenville to the late Marciano and Maria Alanis-Lara. She graduated from Greenville High School in 1964 and started work at Texas Instruments. On Sept. 2, 1967, she was united in marriage with Robert D. Lara in Greenville. She worked at the Hostess Bread Store, Station House Deli and most recently, Mary of Puddin Hill, all of Greenville. She attended college courses at East Texas State University and Paris Junior College. Her hobbies included craftwork, cooking and most especially crochet. She adored animals and had many pets throughout her life. She was active in St. William’s Catholic Church, Right-To-Life, Boy Scouts, Twins Club, and the PTA. She enjoyed giving gifts to children and playing games with them. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She never forgot a name or face and loved talking with relatives and friends. She will be greatly missed by many.
Mary is survived by her husband, Robert; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Laura of Houston and Joe and Tammy of Pflugerville; daughters Monica Atherton of Greenville and Elena and husband Enrique Pol of Dallas; seven grandchildren, Joshua Lara, Christian Thornton, Brian Lara, Allison Atherton, Ana Lara, Henry Lara and Jaxon Lara; three sisters, Rita Denton, Tina Ramos, and Nancy Hernandez; one brother, Modesto Lara; and several nieces, nephews and godchildren Martha and Phillip Lara.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Angelita Lara (in infancy); two brothers, Cecil Romo and Eddie Lara; and four nephews, David W. Jacobs, Steve Lara, David Brack Lara and Christopher Ramos. Pallbearers will be Elias Hernandez, Ricky Laningham, Christopher Duncan, Phillip Lara, Ramon Lara and Dan Ard. Honorary pallbearers include Hector Lara, Nicholas Lara, Peter Lara, Gabriel Lara, Carlos Denton, Tony Vargas, Bobby Vargas, Santos Garcia and Jesse Gomez.
