Mary Reavis Abernathy
Mrs. J. I. (Mary) Abernathy, 89, died at 12 noon on Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Herman Pearce, 517 W. Miller Road, Garland, where she had made her home for the past ten years. Mrs. Abernathy had been in failing health for several years.
Born on September 22, 1877, in Tennessee, she was the daughter of John W. Reavis and Virginia Hamlin Reavis. She was married to John I. Abernathy on August 22, 1892. He preceded her in death on September 28, 1944.
Mrs. Abernathy resided in the Kingston community in Hunt County for many years and was a member of the Church of Christ.
She is survived by one son, Milton Abernathy, Dallas; six daughters, Mrs. May Morris, Torrance, California, Mrs. Pearl Wade, Dallas, Mrs. Cora Kirkpatrick, Ventura, California, Mrs. Dera Pearce, Garland, Mrs. Maggie Puyear, Greenville, Mrs. Jewell Pearce, Dallas; two brothers, Wesley Reavis, Euless, Newton Reavis, Mesquite; one sister, Mrs. Carl Coats, Greenville; twenty-four grandchildren; thirty-nine great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Tuesday in the Johnson Street Church of Christ. Ministers officiating will be Foster Ramsey and Tolbert Vaughn. Burial will be in McWright Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Sorrells and Sons Funeral Home is directing arrangements.
