Linnie Rosa Burgess Ewing

Funeral services for Linnie Rosa Burgess Ewing, who died Sunday, February 9, 1960, in a San Marcos hospital, will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, in the Coker-Mathews-Peters Funeral Chapel.

The Rev. C. B. Fielder, pastor of Wesley Methodist Church, will conduct the serves and interment will be made in East Mount.

Pallbearers will be W. H. Mason, Robert Smith, Frank Lane, Tom Beggs, H. W. Inglish, Jr., and F. G. Steen. Named as honorary pallbearers are F. C. Cameron, George Proctor, G. L. Burnett, Everett Babb, and Bill Bowden.

Born on March 12, 1885, in Abilene, the daughter of William Thomas Burgess and Mattie Emily George Burgess, she was married on September 24, 1900, in Abilene, to Joseph Otho Ewing who was born April 10, 1880 in Celeste, the son of William Thomas Ewing and Elizabeth Rachel Attebury. Joseph died January 4, 1944 in Greenville.

Mrs. Ewing resided at 1803 Wesley, Greenville. She had been a patient in the San Marcos hospital since May of 1959.

She was a member of Wesley Methodist Church.

Surviving are three daughters, Miss Estella Celeste Ewing, Washington, D. C., Mrs. Napoleon Bonaporte (Ava Olwen) Wilson, Hillsboro, Mrs. Ralph (Linnie Belle) Simonds, Port Arthur; three sons, Bush Norris Ewing, San Marcos, Alfred Coulter Ewing, Lake Dallas, and Joseph William Ewing, Port Arthur; fifteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Bell Shafer, Amarillo and Mrs. Francis Bridgeman, Amarillo.

Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Robert Ewing in 1913.

Wilson, Hillsboro, Mrs. Ralph Simonds, Port Arthur; three sons, Bush Ewing, San Marcos, Alfred Ewing, Lake Dallas, and Joe Ewing, Port Arthur; fifteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Bell Shafer, Amarillo and Mrs. Francis Bridgeman, Amarillo.

Her husband preceded her in death on January 4, 1944.
