"Knox City, July 21 - Mrs. J.W. Hickson 77, resident of Knox Co. since 1935, died at her home Wednesday morning. She has been in ill health for about 10 years.
She was born June 24, 1878 in Hunt County, Tex. Formerly Miss Joana Scarborough, she was married November 5, 1896 at Greenville, Tex. She moved to Knox City in 1943.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Assembly of God Church with Rev. J.C. Nelson, pastor officiating, assisted by Rev. Markintile of Graham, Tex.
Burial will be in Knox City Cemetery under direction of Warren Funeral Home.
Survivors include the husband: five sons, Norris, Jim, Howard Hickson of Dallas, Tex.; Hubert Hickson of Sweetwater; and Lonnie Hickson of Garland City, Ark.; five daughters: Mrs. Ella Bailey of Dallas, Mrs. Cleo Sells of Sweetwater, Mrs. Stella Brown of Abilene, Mrs Carmeta Baird of Snyder, Tex. and Mrs. Wilma Westerman of Graham, Tex. and two brothers, Gus Scarborough of Wolfe City, Tex. and Albert Scarborough of Loraine, Tex.; one sister, Lizze Ratliff of Ardmore, Okla.
Three children preceded Mrs. Hickson in death."
NOTE: 1. John William Hickson and Joanna {Joanner} Elmer Scarborough got their marriage license in Greenville, Tx but were married in Celeste, Tx.
