Mrs. Sam Jones

Last rites will be conducted at 2:30 PM, from the First Baptist Church in Celeste for Mrs. Sam Jones, 84, who died Tuesday at 6:25 AM, at the home of a daughter, Mrs. L. A. Berry, in Mesquite.

Mrs. Jones, the mother of J. L. Jones of Celeste and Houston Jones of Commerce, had made her home with Mrs. Berry for the past seven years.

Officiating at the rites will be the Rev. L. M. Huff of Mesquite and the Rev. A. W. Cunningham of Celeste. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery near Celeste.

The body will rest at the home of J. L. Jones in Celeste until time for the services.

Pallbearers will be Lem Warren, Jimmie Norris, and Herman Compton of Celeste, Sam West of Farmersville, Johnny Compton of Dallas, and Vince Thompson of Fort Worth.

Born on October 6, 1867, Mrs. Jones was a native of Ellijay, Georgia. She lived in Celeste until seven years ago, when she moved to Mesquite. She was a member of the Baptist Church in that community.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Lola Fowler of Fort Worth and Mrs. Berry; four sons, R. L. Jones of Port Arthur, L. R. Jones of Tyler, J. L.Jones of Celeste, and Houston Jones of Commerce; twenty-four grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren; a brother, James Thompson of Swanee, Georgia; and three sisters, Mrs. John Walker and Mrs. Charley Evans of Ellijay, Georgia; and Mrs. Noah Evans of Canton, Georgia.

note: (Celeste Cemetery at Hogeye was originally named Mount Carmel Cemetery but because of the confusion with Mount Carmel at Wolfe City, the name was changed. I think this is the Celeste Cemetery)
