Comrade R. A. Ross was born in Alabama, April 21,
1841.
He served in the Confederate Army from August 13,
1861 to the close of the war. Comrade Ross was a member of Company
C, 21st Alabama Infantry Regiment.
Comrade Ross saw much service from 1861 to 1865.
He participated in the Battle of Shiloh and in much desultory fighting,
which occurred between the Confederates and Unionists up to the fall of
Vicksburg, and afterward East of the Mississippi.
Comrade Ross came to Texas in 1871, and settled
in Hunt County, near White Rock.
He engaged in agriculture and became a successful
farmer, as well as a prominent and useful citizen. He took an active
part in all that pertained to civic righteousness.
Comrade Ross was a Presbyterian in church matters,
a Free Mason, and, all in all, a genial as well as honorable, upright man.
He was a member of Joseph E. Johnston camp and served as Adjutant of the
same.
He was a popular officer and well liked by every
veteran member as well as his neighbors.
Comrade Ross went to his Rest after a well spent
life on 12th day of July AD, 1925.
