Rebecca Lawson
Cumby Rustler, 26 Jun 1914:
Lawson, Rebecca, Mrs. - (Hunt County paper) - Age 81, pioneer of Hunt County, Texas, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.O. Collins, in Dallas Tuesday. Her remains arrived in Sulphur Springs by way of the Cotton Belt R.R. and taken to the family burial grounds six miles south of town for interment. Born in Saline County, Missouri. She was 81 years old. When she was five, they moved to Texas and settled six miles south of Commerce on what is known as the King farm.
In 1855, she married John L. Lawson, and to this union nine children were born, four of whom are still living, as follows: Mrs. J. O. Collins, Dallas; Mrs. W.M. McGahana, Tacoma, Washington, Mrs. J. O. Spicer, Corsicana; Mrs. W. H. Vaughn, Okfuskee (sic), Oklahoma. In the old family graveyard near Smith's chapel are buried her father, mother, husband, and five children.
About five years ago, she visited the graves and selected a place by the side of her husband, drove down four stakes, on one of which she places a flag and requested those present to see that her body was laid by the side of her husband when she had finished her work here on earth. The old flag is still there, though faded and torn by the elements. (Cumby Rustler, June 26, 1914).
