Richard Don Chaney

Richard Don Chaney, 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Chaney of Celeste, and a member of the junior class of Celeste High School, died at 3:00 o'clock Saturday morning in a Greenville hospital. He had been ill since the previous Sunday.

Funeral services were held at the Celeste Baptist Church at 3:00 o'clock Sunday afternoon. The Rev. A. W. Cunningham officiated, and burial was made in Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Pallbearers were classmates and included Duke Hale, M. A. Pearson, Tom Sullivan, Ralph Evans, R. A. Craigo, and C. E. Brewer.

Honorary pallbearers were Charles Lewis, Don Ray Bishop, Bobby Craigo, Tom Giles, Herman White, James Lawton Jones, James David Lacy, Johnny Myers, and Teddy Cole.

The body remained at Gray-Dillard-Sorrells Funeral Home in Greenville until 1:00 o'clock when it was removed to Celeste Baptist Church to lie in state until the hour for service.

Born on February 27, 1931, in Celeste, young Chaney had spent his entire life in the community. He was a popular member of his high school class and a member of the Baptist Church where he took an active part in the programs.

An excellent student and a good friend to his classmates, Richard Don was held in high esteem to all who knew him.

Survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Chaney, one sister, Mrs. Billie J. Waddle of Jacobia; three brothers, Malcom Roy Chaney, Kenneth Ezel Chaney, and Bobby Dan Chaney of Celeste; grandmothers, Mrs. Matilda Pittman, Greenville, and Mrs. Sarah Ann Chaney, Celeste; and a number of uncles and aunts.

Other relatives, including a nephew, William Lee Chaney, of Celeste, also survive.
