COMMERCE — Richard Plunkett, 78, of Commerce died Jan. 15, 2007, at Presbyterian Hospital of Commerce. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today at Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home chapel with Brother David Burns officiating. Burial follows at Cumby Cemetery in Cumby.
The son of A.L. “Shorty” and Vera Violet Gaines Plunkett, he was born Nov. 3, 1928, in Cumby. He married Betty Gene Hamilton on Nov. 3, 1951, in Clovis, N.M. He served in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Plunkett retired from Rockwell Bros. Lumber, where he was a director and vice president. He was a member of Lions Club, Rotary Club, and Navy League. He was a director of Cumby Telephone Co-Op from 1972 to 1973, and was a former elder of First Presbyterian Church of Cumby where he was a member.
Mr. Plunkett enjoyed collecting clocks, pocket watches, fishing reels and pocket knives. He was very proud of all his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of Commerce; two sons, Robby Lynn Plunkett and wife Mary Lou of Cumby and Ricky Plunkett of Cumby; grandchildren Carrie Plunkett Shields and husband Kelly of Brashear, Ami Plunkett Keener and husband Adell of Arlington, Melissa Plunkett of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Kevin Plunkett of Sulphur Springs; great-grandchildren Damion Shields and Katelyn Shields of Brashear and Corey Keener and Codey Keener of Arlington; and a brother, Robbie James Plunkett and wife Linda of Commerce.
His parents preceded him in death.
Pallbearers are Matthew Plunkett, Cameron Plunkett, Kenny Plunkett, Kelly Shields, Rick Estes, and T.A. Pressley.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
