Robert Louis Hale, 83, of Glassy Mtn. Rd. , Landrum , S.C. , died Thursday, December 13, 2007, in Greenville Memorial Hospital , Greenville , S.C.
Born in Commerce, Texas, he was the son of the late William Henry and Lucile Byrd Hale. Mr. Hale was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army, and was a graduate of Texas Tech in 1948.
Before retirement, he was named Distinguished Engineer at Texas Tech University and was extensively honored during his engineering career. Mr. Hale was a member of the Green Creek Hounds as a Hilltop Master. Mr. Hale was also active in Kairos Prison Ministries and was a Certified Stephen Minister. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross, Tryon , N.C.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Weeks Hale; his children and grandchildren: Helen Lucile Hale of Eastsound , Wash. , Paul Britton and Dana Diane Hale, and Kali, Lauren and Aubrey Hale of Lubbock , Texas .
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 18, 2007, in the Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross, Tryon, N.C., with Father Michael Doty officiating.
