Ross B. Davidson, 88, of Commerce, died Feb. 16, 2007, at Presbyterian Hospital of Commerce. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home with Bro. McCants and Bro. Hall officiating. Committal service will be 2 p.m. at Edom Cemetery. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He was born Jan. 24, 1919, in Wheeler to John Edmond Davidson and Jimmie Davidson. He retired from E-Systems after 26 years as an aircraft assembler-installer serving as lead-man or foreman for most of those years.
He is survived by his children, Donald Jack Davidson of McKinney, Marie Eloise Lueders of Alabama, Charles Ray Davidson of Greenville, and Ross Davidson Jr. of Commerce; grandchildren, Sherry Ramirez, Richard Davidson, Barry Davis, Christa Davis, Tony Davidson, Stephen and Megan Holley, Ryan Davidson, Jane and Michael Muller and Derek Forkey; great-grandchildren, Olivia Ramirez, Jamie Davidson, Jamie Davis, Morgan Gridley, Lillian Davidson, Michaela Muller, Machenzy Muller, Montana Holley and Payton Holley; a sister, Eva Hancock of Houston; and a brother, Robert H. Davidson of Missouri; numerous other family members and friends.
Ross was a World War II disabled veteran serving his country from 1937 until his medical discharge in 1942. He rose to the rank of master sergeant before his 21st birthday. He was an army infantry drill instructor at Camp Roberts, Calif., and Cheyenne, Wyoming. While serving he was selected to serve as an honor guard for President Franklin D. Roosevelt. After the U.S. entered the war, he volunteered for infantry combat duty. After his discharge at Treasure Island, Calif., he returned to East Texas to farm. Faye Nell Clemmons was his wife of 38 years until her passing in 1981. He was then married to Lillian McDonald for 22 years until her death in 2003. The grandchildren are blessed to have known these two wonderful grandmothers.
Ross loved life in many forms. Mostly he loved to fish. He was considered by most to be a professional although he never got paid for it. He caught fish when no one else around could. He loved to talk and always had a good story and just needed someone to tell it to. He loved his grandchildren and bragged to everyone about them. But most of all he loved to serve the Lord.
Pallbearers are Dick Walker, Marvin McDonaldson, Phillip Davidson, Ryan Davidson, Chris Gridley and Steven Holley.
