John David Sudderth

Final rites were observed at Leonard on Thursday, November 1, 1951, for John David Sudderth of Lafayette, Louisiana, Fannin County native, who died on Sunday, October 28, 1951, from injuries suffered in a fall from an oil derrick.

Last rites were conducted by Dr. Eugene Skelton, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Leonard with interment being made in the Leonard Cemetery, under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home of Leonard.

Pallbearers were cousins and included Maurice Patterson, James Patterson, Frank Patterson, Dudley Patterson, Gompers Sudderth, Willard Sudderth, and Norman Sudderth.

A native of Bailey, Sudderth was born on November 24, 1924 and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Tub Sudderth of Lafayette. His mother was the former Earlene Patterson, a native of Celeste. Sudderth was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge at Lafayette. He served two years in an anti-air-craft battalion of the Fourth Marine Division.

Besides his parents, survivors include his wife and two children, and his grandfather, Lem Patterson of Celeste.
