Elvira Sumrow

Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 21, 1954, at 2:30 PM at the Gray-Sorrells Funeral Chapel in Greenville for Mrs. Elvira Sumrow, 89, who died Sunday night, December 19, 1954, at her home in Greenville.

Services were conducted by the Rev. C. B. Fielder, pastor of the Wesley Methodist Church, and the Rev. C. B. Garrett, pastor of Lee Street Methodist Church of Greenville. Burial was made in IOOF Cemetery at Merit.

The following grandsons were pallbearers: Billy McNatt, Clifton Sumrow, Richard Sumrow, Raymond Mott, Ellis Sumrow, and Fred Carson Sumrow.

Mrs. Sumrow hand her late husband, Egbert Sumrow, moved to Hunt County shortly after their marriage and resided at Merit, Celeste, and Peniel.

She was a member of the Methodist Church at Merit.

Surviving are four sons, George Sumrow of Merit, Claud Sumrow of Wolfe City, Loyd Sumrow of Dallas, and Fred Sumrow of Peniel; three daughters, Mrs. Ruby Banks of Dallas, Mrs. Robbie Mott of Greenville, and Mrs. Ava Duncan of Dallas; thirty-one grandchildren; fifty-seven great-grandchildren including Barbara Sue Sumrow, Martha L. Sumrow, and Kenneth Wayne Sumrow of Celeste; and eleven great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Bill Howser of Durant, Oklahoma.
