Vernon B. Heath, Jr., 80, of Greenville died early in the morning on Dec. 18, 2006, at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. today at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Royce Litchfield officiating. Burial follows in Memoryland Memorial Park.
Born in Commerce on May 27, 1926, he was the son of Vernon Bert Sr. and Alma Susan Thurman Heath.
Mr. Heath served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He retired from Shell Oil Company in Houston where he was a draftsman. He was Episcopalian. He will miss many loving friends at the Stonebridge Apartments as well as his “4 o’clock board meetings.”
Survivors include two sisters, Rosemary Pemberton of Greenville and Athalea Akridge and husband Guyle of Lufkin; nieces Dorothy Sue Pemberton of Greenville, Sharon George and husband Mike of Clemmons, N.C., and Marylea Moore of Greenville; a nephew, Mike Akridge and wife Tonja of Lufkin; great-nieces Merideth Moore, Lindsey Akridge and Leah Akridge; great-nephews Clay George and wife Jennifer, Zach George and Christopher Moore; and a great-great-niece, Lane Elizabeth George.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jerry Heath.
Homer Horton, Hollis “Colonel” Russell, Nick Sollenne, Tom Thornton, and J.D. Winters are honorary pallbearers.
