Wanda Louise Lyday Payne

Caddo Mills--Wanda Louise Lyday Payne, 81, of Caddo Mills, passed away at her home on April 14, 2006. Services were at 4:30 PM, Thursday, April 18, 2006, at the Faith Bible Church. Officiating were Pastor Randall Bost and Glen Steed. Interment followed at the IOOF Cemetery in Caddo Mills.

She was born on July 7, 1924, to George A. Lyday and Flora Culver Lyday.

Wanda and her husband, Harold Payne, owned and operated Payne's Famous Furniture Village in Caddo Mills for thirty-five years. Prior to the store ownership, she had been employed by Sears Department Store in the auditing department and E-Systems in Greenville in their personnel department. She completed many interior design courses and was graduated from the Texas Real Estate School in Dallas.

Wanda served on the Audie Murphy Cotton Museum Board, was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for fifty-two years, the Daytime Chapter of Beta Kappa Master, and Aesthetics Club for fifty years, and she had modeled in the Greenville Style Shows for several years. She was a founding member of the Faith Bible Church in Caddo Mills and played piano for the Methodist Church for many years.

Wanda is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Harold, of sixty-four-plus years; son, Kyle Payne of Sachse; granddaughter, Chelsea Melton and husband Kendall Melton of Caddo Mills; great-grandson Austin Melton of Caddo Mills; sister, Reba Burstein and husband Larry Burstein of Marble Falls; nephews and nieces, Dusty Payne and family, Danny Payne and family, Jerry Gail Dawson and family, Karen Marion and Scott Marion and family, Mike Lyday and Julie Lyday and family, Debbie Cooley and Art Cooley and family; and a large host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George Lyday and Flora Lyday, brother Hank Lyday, and his wife, Bobbie Lyday.

Visitation was from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Monday, April 17, 2006, at Rentfrow Funeral Home. Dinner was served at 6:00 PM at Faith Bible Church after graveside services on Tuesday.

Memorials could be made to the American Cancer Society, the Audie Murphy Cotton Museum or Faith Bible Church in Caddo Mills.

*Bethalyne Lyday Lyon said that Wanda's father and Bethalyne's father were brothers. George A. Lyday lived near Celeste at one time.
