W S GILES DIES AFTER PARALYTIC STROKE SATURDAY
Funeral Held Home on Caddo Street Today
William Simmons GILES, 79, of this city died at 9:15 o’clock Saturday
night, June 7, following a paralytic stoke. The funeral was held at
the residence at 1515 Caddo street at 1:30 this afternoon under the
auspices of the Masonic Lodge, with Rev. W.W. FREEMAN, Pastor of the
Church of Christ officiating.
Mr. GILES was born in Houston County, Georgia, January 21, 1851, and
moved from that place to Texas in his youth. He has lived in Hunt County
practically all his life and has resided in Commerce for the past
twenty-five years, having moved here in 1905.
He married Agnes CHAFFIN December 19 1878 and they had four children,
three of whom are still living, Virgil having died December 17, 1888.
He is survived by his wife, three children, Mrs. Leota CAMPBELL,
of Chicago, Mrs. Ethel SAYLE of Commerce, Dr. Upton GILES of New Orleans,
four grandchildren, Frank and Upton SAYLE of Chicago, Upton GILES Jr.,
and Ann GILES of New Orleans, one great grandchild, Betty Anne SAYLE
of Chicago, one sister, Mrs. Jim BACKHAM of Greenville, and one brother
Bob GILES of Campbell.
Interment was made in the Sodom Cemetery near Campbell.
