Preparations are being rapidly pushed for the United Confederate Veteran's Reunion on the 17th, 18th and 19th of this month. Many of the old veterans are putting in solid time at hard labor in building the tabernacle and fencing the grounds.

The Home Circle
Organized to protect families in case of death. The Jones County Home Circle Society
of Texas, No. 106, was organized June 17, 1904 in Anson, Texas, by R.M. BIARD of
Abilene, Texas, with 56 charter members. The Circle now has over 100. Following officers
were duly elected: C.H. STEELE, president; S.W. LACKEY, vice-president; Sid G. CASTLES,
secretary; C.H. PâPOOL, treasurer; trustuees: Jas. P. STINSON, Dr. D.L. STEPHENS

Dr. A.D. McREYNOLDS left on the train Monday for Dallas, He will operate on C.F.
SHIPP for appendicitis.
Mrs. Lon CUNNINGHAM and children of Abilene are visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs.
ASTIN, north of town.
J.T. WHALY and brother-in-law, J.M. FIKES, and son, William, of Mason county, called
at the News office on Tuesday.
Cyclone DAVIS came in Tuesday from Anson and left on the train. He spoke on prohibition
at Anson Monday night.
BOWEN & Co have the contract for furnishing barbecued meat at the reunion.
Wade BORDER and family left Tuesday for Austin where they will reside. Mr. BORDER
has been in Stamford from the early days of the town.
Mr. and Mrs. D.O. McRIMMON left Wednesday morning for St. Louise.
Miss Rose SMITH who has been visiting her cousin, Mrs. J.A. WHITE for some time left
Wednesday for her home at Central City, Nebraska.
Mr. S. McGREGOR called on the news office Thursday in company with James CARDWELL,
of McMinnville, Tenn. Mr. CARDWELL is looking at this section of Texas.
Mr. and Mrs. J.C. brYANT and son, Bernard, left Monday morning for St. Louis to purchase
good for the BAKER, brYANT Co. stores.
A.H. O'KEEFE attended the reunion at Dublin and reports a good time but too mucch rain.
Unity Association, of the Primitive Baptist church met at Cliff last Friday . We
met the following ministers at the depot Tuesday on the way to their homes: Elder
J.S. NEWMAN of Glen Rose; Elder B.J. DRIVER, Erath county; Elder A.P. KOEN, Shrive,
Texas.
Chas. SAMMONS received a phone call Wednesday from Mrs. C.F. SHIPP that she had received
a letter from Dr. McREYNOLDS that Mr. Shippâs appendicitis was the worst he had ever
seen.

Our meeting is under headway, with Elder GIRARD of Anson assisting the pastor, Rev.
ELLIS.
Capt. RAYNER with others from Stamford are in town today.
R.L. McCAULLEY and Thomas TRAMMELL were in town Monday looking after the interests
of the railroad.
Mrs. McLAIN and daughter are on a visit to her parents in Carlton.
Our trustees for the White Pond school are preapring to make an addition to the
building and have engaged Prof. S.L. REVES to teach again as he has given good satisfaction
the past two terms he taught for us.

W.T. ADKISSON returned last Saturday from a trip to Oklahoma.
Albert HALL from Hill county was visiting relatives here last week.
Miss Grace LAMEND is here teaching music, and is boarding at A.C. TUNNELL'S.
Mr. INABNET and wife of Erath county were visiting at W.T. ADKISSON'S last week.
Nelson TUNNELL and family will leave in a few days for a visit to Comanche county.
Mr. Lee WILLIAMS of Truby was visiting R.F. WILLIAMS last week.

Abbie and Wise Chapel people feel proud of their new gin. Mr. Ike HUDSON is a gin
man, and says it will be second to none in the country. Work has been stopped on
account of the boiler not being here. As soon as it arrives, then this way of going
to Stamford to get our cotton ginned will be a thing of the past.
J.D. McCLARON made a trip to Cottle county for a few days ago after visiting his
wife and baby who had been visiting Mrs. McCLARON'S brother, Will FOMBY.
Mrs. RANKINS has her sister, of Hunt county, with her a while.
Mrs. Geo. JOHNSON is spending a few days with her parents in Hunt county.
Mr. BUSH has a brother from San Saba county visiting him.
Mr. Louis HURBST and Miss Pearl McCLARON were quietly united in matrimony at the
home of the brideâs parents, Mr. and Mrs. T.M. McCLARON, Sunday evening, July 31st.
Lon MIDDLETON and family and Paul brOOKSFIELD are off on a wild goose chase to New
Mexico.
Messrs. REEVES and CROFFORD are teaching a singing school at Wise chapel.
Prof. HICKS has charge of the Wise chapel school next term.
Anson Allsorts
District court very unceremoniously adjourned Monday of last week after a rather
intersting term, there having been lawyers here from Abilene, Waco, Fort Worth, Kansas
City, Haskell, Snyder, Stephenville, Benjamin, Coleman City and Stamford. The most
important cases tried were the Hickey murder case and the Morrison will case, both
resulting in mistrials or hung juries.
Mr. John brYANT and lady of Stamford were here last Saturday.
Joe STEELE and Uncle Jeff MARTIN are gone to the World's Fair this week.
Messrs. FERGUSON and KILLMAN of Hunt county are here this week prospecting.
Judge J.H. (Cyclone) DAVIS made a prohibition lecture last night to a large audience,
in the courthouse.
Miss Bessie DAVIS, niece of Judge DAVIS, is back among her friends again. She has
been visiting her uncle, Dr. DAVIS of Roby.
Miss Annie YATES is back from Austin where she has been attending a Normal school.
Rev. WILLIAMS of Haskell has been conducting a meeting at the Christian church.
bro. PIRTLE, the Methodist pastor here, has been conducting a meeting in the Anderson
chapel, four miles west of town, assisted by his brother from Lamar county.
The Baptists are running a largely attended meeting at Prarieview, six miles southwest
of Anson. bro. HANKS of Stamford is assisting in the meeting.
Mr. Nelson POTTS and Miss Vennie STEED, both of Anson were married at the home of
the parents last Sunday evening.
Mr. F.A. ARNOLD and little daughters, Willie and Mozell, have gone to Neinda for
a day or two visiting friends.
Mr. Ike HUDSON of this place is putting both his large gins here in repair by adding
new fixtures for the mammoth cotton crop being made.
Messrs. R.J. ROLAND, Byard brOCKET and Claude BAILEY have gone to the World's Fair this week.
Mr. STAFFORD of Holland, Bell County, a brother-in-law of Col. R.A. MYERS, is here
prospecting.
The new jail is growing rapidly.
