This is my first visit to this site.
My favorite part of this site is: I liked the queries and gedcom. The searchable database is nice and the cemetery lists where good too.
I would like to see added to this site: I would like online census records to be added for easier research (see Smith county's GenWeb page), and more work should be done on the Oakland Cemetery page (maybe provide a list of names in the cemetery). This site needs more online access to vital records(birth, marriage, and death), this will better assist those who are researching informaion about Kaufman County. I would love to contribute a GedCom file, but currently I only have about 650 names in it. I would also, be willing to look-up information from the Terrell Library for anyone who needs it. I have found the Marriage records and Terrell Tribune Obituary listing's to be very helpful. I would also be willing to look through Oakland and Highland Memorial Cemeteries for particular names.
My Kaufman County success story: My family has lived in Kaufman county from about 1870 and we have owned and operated many restraunts in Terrell. In 1919 my great-grandparents opened the first of our restraunts, called "Olympia" which later became "Chris' Cafe". In 1957, my grandparents opened "Chris' Steak House" on Moore Ave and after my grandfather suffered a heart attack in 1974, my grandmother, Mary Helen Cacas, continued running the Steak House until about four years ago, in 1996. My great Aunt, Pauline and her husband, Woodrow Reagan opened the first Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise in Terrell. And through the years my family ran other eating establishments including: "Catfish Alley" (run by Pauline and brother Jimmy)and "Chris' Smokehouse", a barbecue place, run by my grandfather Tom Cacas. As you can see, my family has been rooted in Kaufman County for many years now and I am proud to call it my home.
I would like to make the following comments: My family has lived in Kaufman county since about 1870, yet none are listed anywhere on your site. (See success story above). --------------------------------------------------

I visit this site about once a month.
My favorite part of this site is: Help from Linda Kay Harwell.
I would like to see added to this site: Kaufman Co cemeteries listing with pictures of individual headstones. As soon as I am able, I would like to volunteer to take photographs of the gravesites in the Crandall cemetery. I am presently tied up with tending to health problems of my elderly parents.
My Kaufman County success story: My name is Jerry Bateman and I live in Forney, TX. My mother (Bonnie Juanille Denton Bateman Pilgrim) lost her mother when she was sixteen months of age. Her mother was Jewel Julia Denton Boone. My grandfather (William Edward Denton) was killed in Whitton, Van Zandt Co, TX when Mother was a very young teenage girl. Mother was passed around from relative to relative and eventually lived with her Grandmother (Rosabelle Fortner Boone Dill) through her highschool years in Corsicana, Navarro Co, TX. Mother later married and moved to the Dallas area. Through the years, her grandmother Rosabelle died along with other relatives. For some unknown reason, mother was not contacted concerning her grandmother's death. She had no idea where Rosabelle was buried or where aunts and uncles were buried. I recently subscribed to several genealogy sites and received several responses. One of them was a cousin who had been tending the gravesite and of my ggrandmother Rosabelle and other relatives. Much to my surprise, I learned that they were all buried in the Crandall Cemetery which is just a few miles from my home in Forney. I took several pictures and showed them to my mother in Canton, TX and she broke out in tears of happiness with the discovery. I cannot begin to thank the genealogy world enough for their help. Especially Linda Harwell (a long time friend and once close neighbor). Genealogy has opened up a new world for me. I am now researching both sides of my family which includes Bateman, Denton, Fortner, Boone and Dill.
I would like to make the following comments: The Kaufman County site has been very helpful in my research. Especially when I opened the cemetery listing and there were my relatives. Please keep up the good work you are doing.. --------------------------------------------------

My Kaufman County success story: I found the parents of my Mother-in-laws great grandmother. Who was Mary Madore Terrell. She married Dr. James Wesley or Wiley Lively. Difficult to make out in her bible. Written in ink and smudged. Anyway it turns out that Medore Terrell is the daughter of Robert A. Terrell and Emily Love. I was actually looking to see if I could find the marriage records of Amy Lively (one of Medore and James Lively's children, and my Mother-in-laws Grandmother). Amy married John Henry Turner in Terrell, TX. When I stumbled over you Wall of Honor. I got so excited that I knocked my coffee over. All over my research papers. This is my first visit to this site.
My favorite part of this site is: The cemetery preservation. You have done an excellent job on the cemetery preservation. It is the best that I have seen on any of the other county genealogy sites. Also, the pictures of the cemetery sites are very helpful. They also tell a story - sometimes very disturbing in cases where the cemetery is in very, very, very poor condition. Also, your site is very organized and easy to move around. I will definitely come back again. I have relatives that are buried in Kaufman County and also have some relatives that live in Kaufman County.
I would like to see added to this site: 1. Just a little more information about the cemetery. Directions to the cemetery. Some of these are in fairly remote areas and unless one knows the area and back roads, they would have a very difficult time finding the cemetery. I have been to several cemeteries in the Kaufman County area, but I am at a lost to find them again. I do not live in the area, therefore, I would not be able to assist with this recommendation. 2. More vital statistics information.
I would like to make the following comments: It appears that a lot of the cemeteries are in poor condition, especially those where non-whites are buried. Isn't there something that can be done to ensure that ALL cemeteries are at least kept to a minimum standard of keeping them cleared of overgrowth and also from keeping land owners from destroying the burial sites? This is very disrepectful of the deceased. I know that in a lot of instances, the descendents are no longer alive, etc., but still, it seems as if some organization or group or governmental entity should try to preserve the history.

My Kaufman County success story: Searching for grave and other records on RoseAnna L. Warren Dozier who died around 1900 and reportedly buried at Blackland. Her husband Andrew Jackson "Jack" Dozier came to Smith County with several children after she died. He died l905 and is buried in Harris Creek Cemetery, Smith County. They were my grgrandparents. Their daughter Della Cora Dozier was born either in Kaufman County or somewhere in MS in 1889. She did not remember her mother or any of her mother's family. So I am searching for Warren's and Dozier's of Kaufman County who might be related.

My Kaufman County success story: My Kaufman County success story comes with a kind person named Susan Moody who photographed my gr- gr- Uncle's grave and sent it to me. His name is Hiram Lilly Murray and he was the first or one of the first graves in this cemetery. He died young while living with his Aunt and Uncle William (Billy) McCarroll and Lilly Murray McCarroll. The families had all traveled together from North Carolina staying for a while in Haw Creek, Morgan County, MO. Hiram's mother, Father and siblings decided to stay there and didn't move on to Texas with these family members. He died one year after he moved to Texas. Bonnie Morris Conrad
I would like to make the following comments: Gosh, now I feel silly as Hiram Lilly Murray is buried in Basin Spring Cemetery. I think I need to look for that one. Regards,

Rosanna Lou (Rosie) Warren Dozier died 13 Dec. 1894 and was buried in Lone Elm Cemetery on right side of her sister Minnie A. Warren, who has a tomb. Rosie's grave is unmarked. According to her parent's bible, Rosie was born 8 Sept 1868 in Scott Co., MS. I see Lone Elm Cemetery is not fairing any better than Blackland. I am still willing to work on the restoration of both Cemeteries.
