My father, Johnnie N. Carden was born in East Texas in 1910, and his father Roy Brown Carden came to East Texas with his father, John Park Carden, around 1902. My father often talked about Mabank. Little is know about either of the couples parents. The family lore is that Myrtle dad ran away from home after his father remarried after the death of his mother. He hid in the forest and was found by the indians, they were going to sell him as slave labour. But the chief's daughter fell in love with him and they were married.
