County is available for adoption! If you're interested in Henry Knox Knox County was formed in
1858, remained unsettled and was again formed into a
county in 1876. In the 1880 census there were 77 residents
living on three farms or ranches. Named for Henry Knox,
Revolutionary War General and the Secretary of War in
George Washington's first cabinet, as was Fort Knox in
Kentucky. It was and remains today a relatively small
county. With about 850 square miles it's original settlers
mined copper, grew cotton or raised cattle. By the
1940's oil was a big product with the population reaching
as high as 10,090 in 1940 and the 2010 estimated
population was 3,719. The county seat is Benjamin.
