MUNDAY, Jan. 13
J.E. Edwards, 73, well known pioneer of this section died suddenly at his home at Bandera Sunday, was buried in the Johnson cemetery after funeral services were held at the First Baptist church Tuesday.
Rev. R.V. Sarrells of Abilene conducted the services, assisted by Rev. W.H. Albertson of Munday.
Mr. Edwards was born in MIssissippi 12 June 1870. He resided in Knox County for about 30 years, moving to Bandera about four years ago.
For many years, Mr. Edwards was engaged in farming although he retired several years ago. Active in the Farmers Union in this section, he served as secretary-treasurer of the state organization for 18 years, giving up this position a short time before leaving this county. He also served as secretary of the Munday local for several years.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nancy Sparks Edwards of Bandera; 8 children: A.B. Edwards of San Antonio; Mrs. Ernest King of Levelland; Mrs. Lela Sueleke of San Antonio; Mrs. T.R. Strange of Corpus Christi; Fayette Edwards of San Antonio; Mrs. Ted Carter of Dallas; O.C. Edwards, in the Army overseas and Plummer Edwards of Abilene; 2 step-children - Mrs. Zefferene Berry of Halliday and Mrs. Sarah Franch Mankins; half-sister; 17 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers: John Burns, Wallace Reid, Lee Haynes, Worth Gafford, Bob Speck of Rochester, W.R. Moore.
Honorary pallbearers: A.M. Reeves, J.F. Hunges of Rochester, Emmett Partride, J.L. McConkey of Byers, A.L. Baker of Rockdale.

Louis Stroup
Louis Stroup passed away on March 7, 2000 in Winters. Born in Knox County, Texas on June 19, 1915, she was 84 years old. Mrs. Stroup lived in Richmond for 50 years, during which time she was a homemaker. She lived in Winters for the last four years. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Richmond, the Winters Church of Christ and the Winters Senior Citizens Club. Her hobbies included sewing, cooking and going to Lake Berryessa with friends. She is survived by her daughter, Carlene Elmore of Oregon; son, Melvin D. Stroup of Winters; sister, Jeanie Porter of Florida; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildn. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin P. Stroup and her son, Travis "Dean" Stroup. Funeral services were held for Mrs. Stroup on Friday, March 10, at the Civic Center Chapel of Wilson & Kratzer Mortuaries in Richmond. Burial took place at Rolling Hills Memorial Park in Richmond. Memorial gifts may be made in Mrs. Stroup's name to the American Cancer Society, 2023 Vale Rd., #4, San Pablo, CA or Yolo Hospice, P. O. Box 1014, Davis, CA, 95617.

Louis Stroup passed away on March 7, 2000 in Winters. Born in Knox County, Texas on June 19, 1915, she was 84 years old. Pierson Burial Rites Slated at Knox City
KNOX CITY, Oct. 14
Body of J.C. Pierson, O'Brien man who was killed in Italy, 6 November 1943, will arrive in O'Brien Saturday for reburial in the O'Brien Cemetery. Services will be held at the O'Brien Methodist church wiht Rev. J.E. Harrell, pastor of the Anson First Methodist church officiating.
Burial rites will be in charge of the American Legion Teague-Carpenter Post No. 229
Born 28 November 1921 at Kirkland, Texas, Pearson was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Pearson. He enlisted in the Army in 1942 and after training in the United States was sent to Italy.

Early Knox City Pioneer Buried
KNOX CITY, Oct. 14
Last rites for Mrs. T.B. Reeder, 87, of Fort Worth, "mother of Knox City" were conducted Wednesday at the First Christian Church by Rev. L.D. Anderson pastor of the First Christian church of Fort Worth, assisted by Rev. Howard of Knox City. Burial in the Knox City cemetery under the direction of Warren Funeral Home.
Mrs. Reeder died Tuesday in Fort Worth after a long illness.
She came to Knox City with her husband in 1889, before the town was established. The couple sold the right-of-way for the Orient Railroad through this area and gave 50 acres for the townsite. Mr. Reeder died several years ago, and Mrs. Reeder had lived in Fort Worth for the past 12 years.
She was a member of the Eastern Star and the Christian church.
Survivors: 3 sons - J.C. and W.A. Reed of Knox City; T.P. Reeder of Vernon; 2 daughters - Mrs. R.G. Vaughn of Fort Worth and Mrs. J.W. Sawyers of Ryan, OK.

Former Munday Resident Dies
Mrs. Mary Angeline West, who lived at 2800 Milton in University Park, Dallas, died Friday at her home. She made her home with her granddaughter, Mrs. Elzie Jackson.
Mrs. West was born in Tennessee on March 2, 1865. She was 96. She had lived in Munday since 1916 until recently moving to Dallas.
She is survived by four sons, B.M. West of Long Beach, Calif.; H.V. of Meadow, Tex.; L.H. of Weatherford and W.D. of Seymour; two daughters, Mrs. A.A. Clark of Dallas and Miss Lennie West of Munday, a granddaughter, Mrs. Jackson; a sister, Mrs. John Hawkins of Richmond, Calif.; 32 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church in Munday with Rev. Alton West, her grandson of Johnson, Tex., officiating and assisted by Rev. Bob Trumain of Red Springs.
Burial will be in Goree Cemetery with grandsons as pallbearers. McCauley Funeral Home of Munday is in charge.

Former Munday Resident Dies

DONNIE LEE PARTRIDGE
Donnie Lee Partridge was born on June 27, 1923, in Knox County, Texas to Emmett and Mattie Partridge. The youngest of five children he grew up in the farming community of Munday until he left for Austin in 1940 to enroll in the University of Texas. There he received a degree in Cotton Marketing and, most importantly, met the love of his life, Ruth Elaine Britt.
In 1945 he began graduate studies at American University in Washington, D.C. While there he worked as a security guard at the U.S. Capitol, where President Harry Truman, the haberdasher, once straightened his tie. That was one of his favorite stories. Still his heart remained in Texas, and so in November 1945 he returned to Austin where he and Elaine were married at the Britt family home on Salado Street. The couple moved then to Corpus Christi where Don worked for Dun and Bradstreet and later to Kingsville where Don was a teacher. There Elaine gave birth to their first child, James Britt, quickly followed by their first daughter, Donna Janet, who was born severely mentally retarded. A few years later, Don became a school principal in La Feria, where they welcomed the arrival of their second daughter, Myra Sue. Donna's disability gave a new direction to Don's career and began a life-long devotion to the education and care of those with special needs.
The family moved to Corpus Christi in 1955, where Don transitioned from work as a school principal into special education administration. At this time, several summers were spent earning an M.S. in Education from the University of Texas. The family then settled in Austin in 1959 when Don began working for the Texas Education Agency. He eventually became Texas's first Associate Commissioner of Special Education. After retiring from the state in 1982, Don and Elaine worked for the United States Department of Defense and traveled extensively throughout the world evaluating special education programs at U.S. military bases. Afterwards they continued their relationship and advocacy on behalf of those involved with Texas State Schools and the Parent's Association for Retarded Texans.
Among Don's greatest joys were his three grandchildren, Andrew, Matthew, and Kathryn McCoy, all of whom he loved to photograph and whom often accompanied him all over the Texas hill country, whether to go fishing, hiking and hunting or to the Austin symphony or to the state capital for the odd lunch with a local lawmaker.
He is preceded in death by his daughter Donna Janet, in November 1991.
He is survived by Ruth Elaine Britt Partridge, his wife of 62 years. Also, his son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Pat Partridge, and his daughter and son-in-law, Myra and Mike McCoy, as well as a large and loving extended family. In addition to his three grandchildren, he will also be treasured and remembered by seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 24, 2008 at Crestview United Methodist Church at 1300 Morrow Street, Austin, TX 78757.
The family gratefully acknowledges the constant service and compassion of the staff at Parmer Woods and general manager Joel Quade, the care of Hospice Austin and Carmen Burkhart, and all of the caregivers with Visiting Angels.

W.E. (Bud) Reynolds, 83, died at the Munday Nursing Center at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday [14 Oct 1970] following a short illness.
Funeral will be Friday at 10 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Munday with the Rev. H.B. Graves, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Johnson Memorial Cemetery under the direction of McCauley-Smith Funeral Home.
Mr. Reynolds, was born Feb 11, 1887 in Thomasville,Ga. And moved to near Abilene in 1890. He attended Merkel and Abilene schools and completed a business course at an Abilene.
In January of 1916 he went to work for West Texas Utilities in Abilene and retired Jan 1, 1956. He married Abbiegail Norman in Haskell July 14, 1917 and they moved to Munday in 1924. Survivors are his wife: two daughters, Mrs. George Tweed of Santa Marino Calif., and Mrs. Ralph Watkins of Wichita Falls one son, Don, of Commerce; six grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be G.W. Hawkins, Marshall Benner, Gene Brown, Robert Hosea, Goodson Sellers and Joe Choucair.
