Application of Letters:

The State of Texas} In County Court Leon County,

County of Leon    } July Term A D 1896

To the Honorable County Court of said County, George Nippert (Brother of Sarah) shows that Barbra, Blanche, John and George McGuffin are minors all under the age of 14 years to wit: Barbra is a female 13 years of age, Blanche is a female 9 years of age. John #3 is a male 7 years of age, and George is a male 5 years of age. All residing in Leon county and is without any lawful guardian of their person or estate That said Minors are entitled to an estate of the estimated Value of One Thousand Dollars, Consisting in real and personal property which is situated in the said County of Leon. That the parents of the Minors are both deceased, and resided in this said County of Leon at the time of their death, And that the petition is not disquialfied from receiving letters of guardianship Wherefore he prays that Notice of his Application be given as required by law, And that he be Appointed guardian of the person and estate of said Minors

Greeting: You are hereby Commanded, That by posting, for ten days, exclusive of the day of posting, in the three most public places in your County, one of which Shall be at the Courthouse door, And no two in the same City or town, Copies of this Writ, you Summon all persons interested in the welfare of Barbra, Blanche, John and George McGuffin, minors to answer our application filed by G.W. Nippert in the County Court of Leon County, on the 26 day of May 1896, for Letters of guardianship of the persons and estate of said minors, which will be heard by said Court on the 6 day of July 1896, at the Courthouse of said County, in Centerville, at which time all persons interested in said minors or estate may appear and Contest said application if they see proper, therein fail not, but have you before said Court, on the said first day of the next term thereof, this Writ with your return thereon, Showing here you have executed the Same. Came to hand 3 day of June 1896 and executed 6 day of June 1896 by posting Copies of the written notice in three public places in said County, one of which was at the Courthouse door. One at Jewett and one at Buffalo. S.N. Robinson, Sheriff.

                    Minors }   August 6th 1896.

G.W. Nippert  Guardianship}  This day came on to be heard the Application of G.W. Nippert, praying for Letters of Guardianship of the persons and estate of Barbra, Blanche, John and George McGuffin minors, and it appearing to the Court that due and legal notice has been given and no objections being offered to these proceedings. It is ordered by the Court that G.W. Nippert be appointed Guardian of the persons and estate of Barbra, Blanche, John and George McGuffin minors upon filing bond in the sum of Two Thousand Dollars, and further ordered that S.M. Brown, John Recknor and J.W. Linsley be appointed appraisers of said Estate.

County of Leon     } July Term, 1896

Know all by these presents: That G.W. Nippert as principal, and - as sureties, are held and firmly bound unto J.W. Powell, County Judge of the County of Leon, and his successor in office, in the sum of Two thousand Dollars for the payment of which well and truly to be made unto the said J.W. Powell, we bind ourselves and heirs, executors and administrators, jointly and severely, firmly by these presents. The condition of the above objective is such that, whereas, the above bound G.W. Nippert, has been appointed Guardian of the person and estate of Barbra, Blanche, John #3 and George McGuffin minors. Now if the said G.W. Nippert shall well and truly perform all the duties required of him under said appointment, then this obligation shall be null and void; otherwise  to remain in full and effect. Witness our Signatures, this day of 1896.

County of Leon     } I, R.W. Stevens, clerk of the County of Leon County, Texas do hereby Certify that on the 6th day of August 1896, G.W. Nippert was duly appointed by said Court Guardian of the person and estate of Barbra, Blanche, John #3 and George McGuffin, minors, and that he qualified as such on this 18th day of Sept 1896, as the law requires.

County of Leon     } Greeting: You are hereby commanded to notify the said S.M. Brown, John Recknor and J.W. Tinsley of said Leon county, with the following notice: These are to authorize and require you, or any two of you, to attend and appraise the estate, both real and personal, of Barbra, Blanche, John #3 and George McGuffin, minors of said County, in dollars and cents, as far as the same shall be produced to you, by G.W. Nippert, guardian in thereof, and when so made, to swear to and subscribe before same officer of said County authorized to administer Oaths, and make due return as the law directs. In testimony whereof, I R.W. Stevens Clerk of the County Court of Leon County, have hereunto set my hand and seal, this 17 day of Aug AD 1896.

Note: John Hugh McGuffin #2 and his wife Sarah C. Nippert are buried at Moore's Chapel Cemetery, Leon County, Texas.

Sarah was born Feb 26,1851 and died Aug 4,1896.

John was born March 30,1852 and died June 24,1891 in Leon County, Texas.
