SHIRLEY JUNE AMMONS - Died 23 May 2009 – Walters Funeral Home
Funeral services for Shirley June Ammons, age 71, of Oakwood are set for 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 27, 2009 in the Walters Buffalo Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo. Pastor Barry Roberts will officiate the services. Interment will be in the Union Cemetery near Teague.
Visitation will be 1 PM until 8 PM Tuesday with the family present from 6 PM until 8 PM at the Walters Buffalo Funeral Home.
Shirley was born September 13, 1937 in Jackson County, Missouri to Estel and Velma (Smaltz) Steele. She had lived in Oakwood since 1979, coming from Cut ‘N’ Shoot, Texas. She was a piano teacher for years, and she also painted using oils and made ceramics. She sewed and crocheted, and grew herbs and flowers. She was a nurse for thirty years, but she never wanted to go back to school to become a RN, because she didn’t want to be separated from her patients. She worked in many different areas in Palestine. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Gene Ammons. Shirley passed away Saturday May 23, 2009 in Tyler, Texas.
Survivors include her son and daughter in-law, Dale Ammons
and wife Cathy of Palestine, Texas; three daughters and two sons in-law, Renee
McKenzie and husband, Steve of Huntsville, Arkansas, Teresa Greene of Palestine,
and Katrena McClain and husband, Matt of Decatur, Texas; one brother Wayne
Steele of the Houston area; and eleven grandchildren, Joshua, Rachele, Trey,
Ryan, Maxwell, Kaylaigle, Nikki, Tommy,
Wyatt, Joshua, and Noah.
