Funeral services for Helen Louise Barnett, age 80, of Houston are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at the Walters Buffalo Funeral Home in Buffalo, Texas. Rev. Joe Clark will officiate and interment will follow in the Parker Cemetery in rural northeast Leon County.
Visitation for the public will be held at the Walters Buffalo Funeral Home on Monday, April 13, 2009 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family present to receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Helen Barnett was born in Flo, Texas on February 17, 1929 to Jasper Columbus and Nannie (Page) Barnett. She was raised in the Flo Community and, in 1957, moved to Houston. She worked for 20 years at the Bemis Bag Co. and for about 10 years at Orlikon Welding Products. She enjoyed attending church and was a member of the "World Apart Ministries" in Houston. Her family remembers her as always having a smile. She was never married, but her nieces and nephews were her children and grandchildren. Miss Helen passed away April 9, 2009 while in a Houston hospital surrounded by her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and by three brothers, Terrell, Marvin and Bill Barnett.
Surviving family members include two brothers, Joe "Pete" Barnett of the Flo Community in Leon County and J.V. Barnett and his wife, Norene of Weatherford, Texas and two sisters, Shelby Greenwood and husband, Arthur of Houston and Pinkie Baker and husband, James L. Nacogdoches.
