Herbert Dale Huffman – Died 20 June 2009 – Bowers Funeral Home

Funeral services for Mr. Dale Huffman were held on Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at 12:30p.m. at First Baptist Church in Teague. Bro. Darrel Beggs and Bro. Benny Mize officiated. Interment followed the services at Union Cemetery near Freestone.

Mr. Huffman passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2009, at his residence in Teague. Herbert Dale Huffman was born and raised in Donie and attended Teague High School. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in May of 1945 and received his honorable discharge in March of 1945 after serving during World War II. He married Lula Mae Evans on September 11, 1948 and shared over forty-eight years together until being separated by her death in 1996. Mr. Huffman retired from Champion Paper Company after forty-six years of employment in 1993. He was a true people person and enjoyed visiting with everyone and he kept a day by day journal of his activities, the high and low temperature, and rainfall amount for every day from January 1971 until this past May. Mr. Huffman loved the outdoors and enjoyed watching hummingbirds at the several feeders he kept for them at his home. He loved his horses, fishing, and especially his grandchildren. Always a great cook, Mr. Huffman was famous for making candy, cakes, and pies and sharing them with his friends, particularly the 5-F club. He served on the Union Cemetery Committee for many years and spent many hours working on cemetery projects and helping other families secure cemetery plots. Mr. Huffman was a member of First Baptist Church in Teague. He is survived by his wife of over ten years, Jeri Huffman; one son, David Huffman; three grandchildren, Rachael Huffman, Travis Huffman, and Mitchell Huffman, all of Teague; four brothers, Kenneth Huffman and Harvey Huffman both of Pasadena, Howard Huffman of Arlington, and James Huffman of Teague; one sister, Chloe Brotherton of Buffalo; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mr. Huffman was preceded in death by his wife, Lula Mae Huffman; two brothers, Clayton Huffman and George Huffman; and three sisters, Ruth Plummer, June Spruiell, and Mavis Skeleton.
